VAHSMTB Race 4

The Woodberry Mountain Bike Team headed to Harrisonburg to compete against 130 other riders on an extremely technical mountain bike course.  The course was three miles long and the varsity riders completed four laps and the JV riders did two.  We expected to be really challenged on this course given the lack of technical riding that we are able to do, however, the boys really stepped up with personal bests for almost every rider.   These boys represented Woodberry well and are looking forward to the final weeks preparation before the state championship at Blue Ridge School next Saturday.  As always, thanks for your support, the boys could not have advanced as quickly as they are without everyone's support and patience with this growing team!

VAHSMTB Race 3 at Miller School

The Woodberry Forest Mountain Bike Team headed to the Miller School of Albermarle yesterday to compete in race three of the Virginia High School Mountain Bike League.  Top rider for the tigers was Justin  who clawed his way to 6th place with an absolutely stellar performance.  Justin  (6) was then followed by Thomas (26) and Hines (28) who rounded out Woodberry's top three varsity finishes.  For the JV race Alex (16), Ryan (17) and Bennett (18) all finished in the top 20 after a strong two lap effort.

It is also worth mentioning that all 15 WFS boys finished this race!  Given the course length and difficulty this is a huge team victory. These guys are training hard and it really shows on race day.  Finishing times ranged from 1 hour and 5 min to 2 hours with the Varsity course around 16 miles with 2400' of climbing and the JV course 8 miles and 1200' of climbing.  Overall, a great race on a great course.

Full results are posted on the VAHSMTB Website

The race got some great local coverage on NBC 29

VAHSMTB RACE #2 Roanoke

Today the mountain bike team competed in the race #2 of the Virginia Area High School Mountain Bike League.  With a reduced squad the boys knew every finish would count towards our team total.  As such, each guy gritted their teeth and finished the race.  Certainly the hardest race to date with Varsity completing 18 miles w. 2400' ft of elevation and JV doing 9 miles w. 1200' feet during the race (finish times ranging between 1 hour 20min and 2 hour and 10min).  Top performing athletes for the team were Justin Mitchell and Woody Liles on Varsity and Ryan Tilgner and Alex Kronguard for JV.

Highlights:
  1. Justin Mitchell: Top 10 Varsity
  2. Woody Liles:  Huge effort with a really strong Varsity finish
  3. Ray Wu: Gutted it out for his first JV finish!!!
  4. Alex Kronguard: only minutes behind Ryan Tilger.
  5. Ryan Tilgner:  Top 20 JV.
We will know more details when the race results are posted on Monday.  In the meantime check out http://wfsoutdooreducation.blogspot.com/ for pictures and congratulate the ten guys who traveled on a job well done.  Just finishing this race was a huge success!
